On 30th May, Valencia is hosting the tenth World Triathlon University Championship. The competition will be featuring close to 40 countries and over 200 participants including competitors (around 150) and officials (over 70 people). This edition beats the participation record of all previous competitions both in terms of the number of athletes and participating countries.
In Valencia, triathletes from all around the world will be coming together. Many countries have already confirmed their participation, including Australia, Japan, China, South Africa, several Latin American countries, USA and a good number of European countries.
The athletes will begin by swimming 1,500 metres, followed by a 40 km cycle ride and finishing with a 10 km run. The Playa de Las Arenas beach and surrounding area will bear witness to the most important triathlon for university athletes.
Throughout the week running up to the championship, the competitors should be arriving. The official opening ceremony for the championship will be taking place on Saturday 29th at 6.30 p.m. at Port Saplaya, the headquarters for the different delegations of athletes. On Friday 28th May, various technical meetings will be held.
