Les Useres, pilgrimage into Castellón

The inland of Castellón presents in its territory the largest protected area in the Region of Valencia. Its varied landscapes, its rich natural areas and of course, their traditions show the immense heritage in this province. In fact, the inland of Castellón holds annually the Penitential Procession of Els Pelegrins de les Useres, one of the oldest and most picturesque of the Region of Valencia.

The way still preserves the traditional route, an itinerary that goes from Les Useres stopping by Lucena del Cid, Xodos and Vistabella del Maestrazgo leaving behind rough landscapes made up with steep hills, deep ravines and large areas of bushes, oaks and pine forests.

The pilgrims leave on Friday of Mass at eight o'clock in the morning while an expectant audience is absolutely in silent. Barefoot pilgrims go through the streets of the town, stepping the path of ivy carefully prepared by the neighbors of Les Useres. The emotion of the moment is only interrupted for the sound of the bells announcing the start, and the melodies of the singers that make up the procession. After the walk of the pilgrims, the rest of the people from the pilgrimage join them.
