Se recuerda que tabaquismo es la intoxicación crónica producida por el abuso del tabaco y que no debe usarse para referirse al consumo de tabaco.
Se ha observado que en muchas noticias en las que se habla de medidas o estudios sobre el consumo de tabaco se emplea erróneamente el término tabaquismo, como se ve en los siguientes ejemplos: «Los resultados confirman que el tabaquismo tiene un profundo arraigo cultural»; «La legislación sobre el tabaquismo resulta un bien jurídico superior».
Tabaquismo, según el Diccionario de la Real Academia Española, es la 'intoxicación crónica producida por el abuso del tabaco' y no debe usarse para referirse al consumo de tabaco ni al hábito de fumar.
De este modo, en los anteriores ejemplos, debería haberse escrito: «Los resultados confirman que fumar tiene un profundo arraigo cultural»; «La legislación sobre el consumo de tabaco resulta un bien jurídico superior».
