Valencia gives into jazz

On three Thursdays, the 16th, 23rd and 30th September at 11 p.m., the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) in Valencia will be hosting a series of free concerts by Bob Sands & Fabio Miano Quartet, Kiko Berenguer, and the final performance will be given by the IVAM Jazz Ensemble and Antonio Serrano.

The musicians taking part in the Jazz a l'IVAM season include the saxophonist and composer Bob Sands, born in Manhattan, who has the honour of having received the Honorable Mention Award from DownBeat magazine. He has also performed on international tours with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

The résumé of Italian saxophonist Fabio Miano includes collaborations with Pat Metheny, Michel Camilo, Richie Cole and Dennis Rowland, as well as having performed at some of the most important festivals around, such as San Sebastián, Alicante, San Javier, Valencia and Madrid.

Currently, he not only fronts his own group, but is also a member of Valencia Hot Five and regularly collaborates with groups such as The Platters, Cotton-club big-band, Revolver, Seguridad Social and Presuntos Implicados.

Finally, Antonio Serrano, one of Spain's great jazz musicians, is chiefly known as a harmonica player, although he has also shared the stage with musicians such as Lorin Maazel, Salvatore Accardo, Bárbara Hendricks and Placido Domingo, among others.

All first-class musicians that you can enjoy at the IVAM on 16th, 23rd and 30th September. You'll love it!
